I wanted us to “land on a cloud” when we arrived at the Douro Valley house I’d found. And we’ve felt like we’ve been floating since we got here. The house is absolutely magnificent. It’s a gigantic historical farm house on 25 acres. But it’s been completely renovated while holding onto structures and elements of its past. It’s a feat of architecture with a giant pool and sauna and spa, a game room, fabulous kitchen and well appointed rooms everywhere you look.
I knew we would be completely wiped out when we arrived so I decided to take advantage of some of the services offered by the house staff. I’d arranged for massages and for the house chef to prepare us dinner as I knew we would be too tired. I’m so glad we did these things. It made our first day/arrival exactly what we needed.
